What is API connectivity?
An API (application program interface) is what allows two applications to talk to each other. For example, online travel agencies like Veltra and OnceThere can use an API to offer your activities on their websites.
API connectivity is a 1-1 connection between FareHarbor and an online travel agency (OTA) that allows the OTA to:
- Pull availability from FareHarbor
- Send bookings to FareHarbor
- Send cancellations to FareHarbor (select connections only)
What are the benefits?
The main benefits of API connectivity include real-time availability, the ability to target in-destination customers using flexible booking cutoffs, and ease of operations.
Real-time availability: A customer booking on a third party website will never be able to book more spots than you have available at a certain date or time.
Target in-destination customers: Because you’re never at risk of overbooking, you’ll be able to target in-destination customers who are looking to book last minute.
Ease of operations: All bookings are centrally located in FareHarbor so you can view your manifest and customer information all in one place. Changes to an activity’s online booking status in FareHarbor will automatically be reflected in the API-connected application.
What should I be aware of?
Once connected, changing certain parts of your Dashboard can affect the mappings set up between you and the online travel agencies you work with. FareHarbor will display a warning whenever you’re about to make a change that will affect your API connections, and our team is always available to help you make any of these changes and ensure your inventory is always synced.
