About

Dog sledding is a tradition of travel in the Arctic. Our dog sledding consist of a musher, a sled an Alaskan huskies. It´s an adventurous activity for your Arctic holiday in Tromsø. We love doing this and want to share the amazing feeling of leading a dog sled with happy and strong Alaskan huskies. From our kennel we slide into the snow-covered highlands of Kvaløya, between trees and over hills. And if we are lucky – the Northern Lights will dance on the sky above us on the late evening tour. For the really passionate polar adventurers we also offer a 7- days Dog Sledding Expedition (ask us).

You don´t need any experience because our guides will give you all the equipment you need, teach you how to use the sled and then into the wild we go. We will pick you up with our mini-bus in Tromsø city and drive you back after the tour.

Daily departures:
09:00 – 13:00 (4 hours)
11:00 – 15:00 (4 hours)
13:00 – 17:00 (4 hours)

Meeting point:

  • Meet our driver at Scandic Ishavshotell16 seats Sprinter mini-bus Indoor dressing room with restrooms.

After the tour we serve a hot beverages and chocolate cake. We recommend you to dress up with warm clothes, gloves and a hat. Our driver is a local and familiar with winter conditions. Guides and handlers are experienced and will take good care of both guests and dogs. Our Alaskan huskies are well trained working dogs who loves to be active, play and cuddle.

Please note

Safety:
For safety the minimum age for our daytime trips is 7 years old, for our evening trips the minimum age is 10 years old. We do not have an upper
age limit, but you need to be able to actively take part on the sled.
Please note that your time outside on the sled will be approximately 90 minutes, so for very young and older guests it is vital to wrap up warm.

Is it possible to take photos on the tour and can I bring a tripod?
Yes, we encourage you to take photos during your adventure, however keep in mind this will be the passenger’s role on the sled, as the driver will need to concentrate on the trail! You are welcome to bring a tripod for use at the kennel, however there is not enough time during the trip itself to set up advanced camera equipment. Once back at the kennel you will have plenty of time for photos and to set up your tripod.

Clothes:
We will provide you with both Arctic Suits and boots (as well as hats and mittens if you don’t have your own). You will need to wear warm clothing underneath that allows you to be active. We recommend multiple layers such as woollen thermals with and thick woollen socks. Bring your camera!

What happens if there is no snow or the weather conditions are bad?
Our dogs love the cold and snow so there aren’t many weather conditions where they don’t want to run, however Arctic Adventure Tours
reserve the right to cancel the activity at any point for safety reasons. We will of course offer you an alternative activity, rebooking to an alternative date or a full refund if your trip is cancelled.
