Once restored and working, you will use this bike to travel across country- point to point over two days to achieve your Award Adventurous Journey.
How Adventure Out Australia can help:
- We will hold workshops at our premises in Welshpool leading up to the journey
- We can assist in the selection of the bike
- We can assist with the selection of parts and the instruction to fit them
- We offer hire options for panniers, racks, all camping equipment, etc
- We will provide expert guides that will facilitate the journey in a safe and purposeful manner
- We will provide safe secure areas to set up camp
Participants will begin their journey at Jarrahdale General Store (coffee shop) where we’ll meet to brief the group on the goals and requirements for the day and the program. From there we will set off in a direction after the group has settled on a route and are confident in navigating to camp (groups sometimes get this wrong, which in turn becomes a teachable moment). Depending on the navigational skills and the route chosen the camp will be within a 6km ride from the starting point. It is up to the group to lead the expedition, and to reach the goal of finding the camp site, keeping the group together. As instructors, we will be overseeing the group and where needed we will be able to step in to assist. By giving ownership to the group we extend the opportunity for them to gain responsibility and a collectiveness attitude that will help them in future endeavours.
Upon reaching the camp site we will brief the group on camp set up, including safety, hygiene, cooking, tent locations and heating (fire!). It will be up to the group to coordinate the camp set up. The Adventure Out team will facilitate a problem solving and team building session for fun and learning, in addition to allowing time for the repair and adjustment of bikes and equipment where necessary. After dinner and clean up, we will debrief the day’s events and discuss how the group is managing the tasks and their goals. Following on from this, we will facilitate a “solo” this is time to reflect on the day, to practice mindfulness.
Our goal is to navigate our way to Southern Hills Christian College for a Zip Line reward and a debrief of the activity. We will reflect on the previous days and discuss ways to transfer the learning to everyday life.
Q: When we complete the journey…. What do we do with our Tip Bikes?
