Whisky, Wool & Wittiness
Speyside is best known as the home of Malt Whisky: More than half of Scotland's whisky distilleries can be found here. It's not all about whisky though: Speyside is home to some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery and lush landscapes: Lands with a rich history and heritage and many hidden treasures, waiting to be explored.
Our adventure starts with a stop at Culloden Battlefield, before we head across the stunning Dava Moor into Grantown-on-Spey, a planned town with beautiful architecture and a lovingly restored Railway Station on its outskirts.
From here, we follow the banks of the majestic River Spey into the heart of Malt Whisky Country and to the historic Knockando Woolmill. Tucked away in a lovely area, the restored mill creates exclusive, small batch yarns and fabrics for the luxury market.
Past many distilleries, we now drive into the town of Aberlour, where the son of a local farmer founded Aberlour Distillery in 1879. We are happy to organise a tour of a distillery* or the nearby cooperage* as part of your adventure. Alternatively, we take you to a cozy place where we will tell you a few stories of the cunning whisky smugglers.
After a visit to the iconic Craigellachie Bridge, we head into Moray's Capital to admire the ruins of Elgin Cathedral, once known as the Lantern of the North. From this last stop, we return to your accommodation.
