Description

The ideal circumstance for this tour is to be picked up from your hotel in Divisadero, enjoy the touring to Urique Canyon, then be dropped off at your hotel Cerocahui after the tour mid afternoon OR vice versa.
In this way you use the tour as a transfer as well (saving the train ticket cost) and the day is a bit shorter for you since you don't have to back track again at the end of the day.

This tour begins and ends in either Creel, Divisadero or Cerocahui

This day tour is all about enjoying a day 'off the beaten tourist path' with the expansive Urique Canyon views as the icing on the cake. It drives through the villages of San Rafael, Bahuichivo and finally along a dirt road to the overlook of Urique Canyon at Cerro Gallegos.
There is a stop at the Mission in Cerocahui, time permitting.

Be sure to bring along a box lunch with you today if you do not wish to include any of the optional picnics we offer during the booking process.

Highlights

  • Enjoy expansive views of Urique Canyon
  • Drive through the small towns of San Rafael and Bahuichivo
  • Drive through a section of road that goes through a portion of rock
  • See wonderful canyon views as you travel along the back roads
  • View Cerocahui Mission, time permitting

Itinerary

This is an excellent full-day tour that drives you along the road through San Rafael, Bahuichivo and onto the overlooks of Urique Canyon at Cerro Gallegos.
There will be a mix of climate zones today that make for interesting viewing as you'll see cactus mixed with fluffy, green ferns in places while you stay in the upper sierra.

We'll start the day by driving to the farthest point on the tour to see the overlook of Urique Canyon at the best time of the day for expansive viewing.
During the drive, we'll pass through the villages of Bahuichivo, and San Rafael (both train stops on the Regional train), pausing occasionally at canyon views for photographs as you are driven along this scenic, paved road.
We'll pass through a rock wall that was carved out for the road when it was only dirt and a single lane.
Changing now onto a dirt road, we'll travel about an hour further to the overlook of Urique Canyon called Cerro Gallegos. Here you'll enjoy an hour or so of canyon viewing.

Returning by the same dirt road, we'll head into the small village of Cerocahui for a quick stop off to show you the Mission there, time permitting.
Afterwards, we return by the same paved road back to either Divisadero or Creel or vice versa if you are doing the trip in reverse.

**We highly suggest you book yourselves into a hotel in Divisadero the night before this tour, and on the day of the tour you stay the night in Cerocahui, OR vice versa if you are doing the tour in reverse.
This is the optimum way to enjoy this private tour so you don't have to backtrack over the same ground, and it gives you the late afternoon free to enjoy Cerocahui or Divisadero, depending on where you are starting and ending the tour.

Please Note: If you prefer to return to Divisadero or Creel by doing the tour round trip, that is just fine, though you will not arrive back to Divisadero/Creel until around 7pmish, which will be in the dark in the fall and winter months.
