Eric Jackson, Director of Horticulture at Old Salem Museum & Gardens, will share the story of the Moravians—renowned for their emphasis on education, natural history, and land stewardship—shaped the gardens, landscapes, and forests of Old Salem.
Mr. Jackson will trace the Moravians global network of botanists and plant collectors, their arrival in North Carolina, and their enduring legacy in the restored gardens, landscapes, and tree canopy of Old Salem today. Special attention will be given to the role of forestry and land management in early Salem, highlighting how these historic practices reflect a deep ethic of stewardship and sustainability.

Itinerary
The event begins at 3:30 at the Leu Center for the Visual Arts adjacent to the Leu Library (and Gallery) on the Belmont University campus.
After the lecture guests will be guided on a tour of the Belmont gardens by the Director of the University Gardens and Grounds Department.
Then all guests are welcomed into the Grand Salon of Belmont Mansion for a reception of light hors d'oeuvres.
