River levels fluctuate and may affect your trip. Please call our office a day prior to your trip to verify water levels. If your chosen trip is affected due to water level, we will choose an alternative trip which may or may not include an additional charge or reduction in the price of your trip. Parties with less than 4 participants will be subject to a $50/person/day surcharge.

Alternative Low Water Trip
When the water flows drop below navigable levels,
as we suspect will begin happening about Mid-March, 2025,
this trip will be converted into a Half-Day Road Tour of the Big Bend State Park, highlighting kid and family-friendly sites along the paved corridor. The Meeting times and places will remain the same, as well as the costs. Any parties booking on or after February 25, 2025 will be subject to these changes and will not be automatically refunded.
All participant who have booked a half-day river trip prior to 02/25/2025, and are eligible for the refund, instead of guided road tour or upgrading to a full day river trip, must contact our office 3-4 days days before your scheduled trip to confirm your decision. Your refund will be prosecced on the day of your cancelled trip. Those parties that "No SHow" will not receive any refund.

Description
Novice river runners, families with small children, and 80-year-old youngsters will enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Rio Grande within the Big Bend Ranch State Park on this half day float/paddle. The surrounding mountains with colorful layers of volcanic ash called Tuff, offer up a stark contrast to the dark lava formations on the banks of the river. Participants will receive safety/paddle instructions before descending down the river. Your Interpretive guide will show you interesting desert plants and point out unusual geologic formations as we pass through the 800' tall walls of Dark Canyon. This trip is offered twice a day, with departures at 8:30 AM and 1:30 PM. MEETING TIMES ARE 30 MINUTES Earlier. *Parties with less than 4 participants will be subject to a $50/person/day surcharge.
Canoe trips will be done in 2 passenger canoes. At times, a small child may sit between two adults. Solo travelers or passengers without a paddle partner, may paddle with a different party's member or a river guide. We attempt to avoid placing strangers in the same boat, but it is occasionally unavoidable.

What's Included
Your trip fee includes guides, boats, life vests, drinking water, transportation to and from the river, and all miscellaneous river gear. You are welcome to bring a small cooler. *No glass or alcohol.
