Dalnavert’s Pink Tea on March 9th is a tea party in the tradition of the “pink teas” hosted by suffragists in the early 20th century to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Pink teas were gatherings hosted by women as a covert way of meeting to discuss strategy, flying under the radar as a social gathering rather than a political meeting. This way, the women's meeting could ensure that no men or opponents would attend.
Dalnavert’s Pink Tea will include tea and light refreshments, a short lecture on the history of women’s suffrage in Manitoba, and an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at some of our rarely seen craft artifacts, celebrating craft as a women’s art form.
We encourage guests to wear pink!
