NEW TOUR! Glencairn Museum is debuting a new self-guided tour using our webapp glencairnmuseum.oncell.org which requires a smart phone. This new “Discover Glencairn” tour includes the exterior and cloister garden, mosaic bird room, Upper Hall, and Great Hall. Exclusive access to the Sacred Adornment exhibition is also included. This tour has been created to provide you with a safe and enjoyable private experience for a single household, and your family and friends. The first part of your self-guided tour leads you on a stroll through the castle gardens and exterior architectural details. Your group will be challenged to find and identify a variety of animals, musical instruments, and a dozen species of birds. A highlight of the exterior portion of the tour is the cloister garden featuring a covered walkway with a central court open to the sky. After you have completed your walk of the museum exterior, you are invited to come into Glencairn for a narrated tour of the beautiful art throughout the first floor of the museum.

The "Discover Glencairn" tour is currently the only way to access our exhibition, Sacred Adornment: Jewelry as Belief in Ancient Egypt. This exhibition explores how jewelry in the Museum’s collection was used by the ancient Egyptians to adorn, to protect, and to express devotion to the divine. The beautiful necklaces, bracelets, and rings on display reveal the complex ideas that guided the artists, as well as the hopes and beliefs of those who wore this jewelry in ancient times.
