About
Discover the Dutch countryside during our tour of Waterland, visiting the windmills area, the picturesque villages of Edam, Volendam and the ancient island of Marken.
Be surprised by the contrasts of the Dutch countryside and immerse yourself in the most rural Holland with specialized guides, focusing on three of the most important historical elements of this country such as its windmills, cheese and water.
Departing from Amsterdam we will start our excursion in Zaanse Schans, a picturesque recreation of the pre-industrial complex dominated by windmills that the bank of the river Zaan was born during the seventeenth century. Our second stop is in the town of Edam, known internationally for its cheese with designation of origin, although with much more to discover, since its historic centre has been considered a World Heritage Site since 1996. On our way to Volendam we will stop at a farm where we will be told about the traditional Dutch cheese making process and, of course, where we will be able to enjoy tasting a great variety of the best cheeses.
Our next visit is Volendam. Here you can explore the most authentic Dutch culture by strolling along the old pier, sampling the local fish and enjoying the result of one of the masterpieces of hydraulic engineering, the Ijsselmeer.
Finally, we will go to Marken, a territory that forms a peninsula in the Markenmeer, although formerly it was an island inhabited by local fishermen. Its characteristic architecture attracts tourists and travelers throughout the year.
