Meet the Performers
Brent Butt
Born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, BRENT BUTT discovered early that being funny was a good way to get attention. Brent honed his comedy in school and at the age of 20 moved to the city to pursue a career in stand-up. Within months he was headlining top clubs in Toronto, and within a couple years he was touring internationally and appearing at major festivals. His television specials quickly secured his reputation as one of the funniest people in the country, but he was also busy creating his own TV series – a sitcom called CORNER GAS. It became an instant hit with unprecedented ratings and numerous accolades including an International Emmy Award nomination, and was named "Funniest Show on TV" by TV Guide readers. Canada’s favourite comedy is now shown in over 26 countries including the US. The final episode of the series was “the highest (rated) on record for a Canadian scripted series since it began keeping track in 1994” Brent’s follow-up series HICCUPS ran for two seasons. In 2013 Brent was honoured with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to community and country.
That same year Brent’s first feature film entitled NO CLUE and directed by Carl Bessai was released. Brent wrote, starred in and produced the film under his Sparrow Media banner. The highly anticipated feature film return to Dog River with CORNER GAS: THE MOVIE saw the entire beloved cast reunited to the delight of rabid fans and new fans alike and the movie would go on to receive a special Golden Screen Award at the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards. Re-imagined by creator and star Brent Butt, an all-new animated version of the iconic comedy franchise entitled CORNER GAS: ANIMATED debuted in 2018. The animated series immediately became the #1 rated show in the history of Canada’s The Comedy Network and a popular main stay on streamer CRAVE TV. So successful in fact, the animated series is now also streaming in the United States on Amazon’s free streaming service IMDB TV and a French language version has been launched. Brent and the series have won multiple Canadian Screen Awards and Leo Awards including Best Animated Program, Best Performance and Best Animation Writing so far. The fourth and final season of CORNER GAS: ANIMATED is now available. Most recently Brent’s first novel HUGE debuted to great fanfare immediately becoming the #1 Fiction Bestseller in Canada and it remains on the Top Ten list to date. With Brent performing, writing, executive producing, and even directing, there is little doubt the future holds many untold achievements for one of Canada’s brightest stars.
Derek Seguin
Montreal-based Derek Seguin is one of the most sought after
stand up comedians on the international circuit. He has performed at the prestigious invitation-only Just For Laughs festival an impressive 11 times as well as appearing numerous times at every other major festival in the country, making several television appearances along the way. At a past Just for Laughs festival, GQ Magazine’s Comedy Editor reported about JFL that: “Montreal-comic Derek Seguin stole one of the most star-studded gala shows last year from host Whitney Cummings. This year, he appeared in The Nasty Show and proceeded to steal that too. A true star and Montreal's pride and joy.” The Montreal Gazette enthused that: “Derek Seguin earned a standing ovation for his set during the ninth Just for Laughs gala … had me gasping for air, I was laughing so hard at the detailing of his second date with his Newfoundland girlfriend. … What made it great, however, was not the boldness of his material but that he described it all in such childlike wonder. Brilliant.” He has also appeared on CBC Radio’s, “The Debaters” more than fifty times and is one of the show’s fan favourites. Undeniably one of Canada’s hottest comedians, he fittingly walked away with the top prize of Sirius XM’s Canada’s Top Comic competition a few years ago; a contest that spanned the entire country with finalists from every major city. In March 2021, it was announced that the album, “PanDerek 1 st Wave” had been nominated for a Juno award. This past March, he was nominated yet again for the comedy album of the year at the Junos for “Life of Leisure”. 2 more proud moments in an illustrious and hilarious career.
Whether he’s ragging on politics or describing life with his children, he brings us into his perspective without preaching any selfish point of view. His undeniable charm makes him simply fun to watch and listen to and is in large part why he is one of Canada’s most “in demand” comedians. The quintessential performer, Derek is a stand-up comedian, actor, host, narrator, voice actor and most importantly, father of 3 beautiful children… and all this, in both English and French (especially the “papa” part). A consummate professional, Derek is at home on stage in a comedy club, conference centre, theatre, arena, school or arts centre. He tailors his sets for all audiences and can work clean or filthy. There is no event that won’t be livened up by the addition of Derek’s natural charm, honed comedic genius and warm, witty banter.
Patrick Ledwell
Patrick's quick and smart comedy has brought him national recognition with regular appearances on CBC Radio’s “The Debaters.” He’s had return engagements from Halifax and Moncton Comedy Festivals, including a 2022 CBC-TV feature set for Halifax Comedy. Patrick is a popular performer and host at events across the country, from opening the Canada Winter Games to a performance in Inuvik, above the Arctic Circle. Patrick lives on a hobby farm just outside Charlottetown PEI, with his wife Tara and his 12-year-old son Nate.
