About the Band
The Accidentals (Sav Buist and Katie Larson) started playing music professionally when they were 15 and 16 years old after meeting in their public high school orchestra program in Traverse City, MI. They volunteered to help their high school acquire electric instruments and formed the alternative strings club and so was born a friendship for the ages.
Their story is exceptional as they have never not been musicians. They have worked professionally in the music industry since they were teens, launching their first album in 2012, just months before they transferred to Interlochen Arts Academy and participated in the first ever, Singer Songwriter program as Junior/Seniors.
Six full length albums, three EP’s, a production deal, a major label deal, hundreds of concerts in the US and abroad including some of the best festivals in the US, sync placements in TV series, movies, and ads, endorsement deals, collaborations, a sold-out FAM cruise to Croatia, and a fan club, they call FAM grove, brings us to 2024.
Releasing Cover Artin 2024, their first album with new drummer, Katelynn Corll (Detroit) the band kicked off the summer at Rock By The Sea festival in Florida and wrapped at Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, MI.
They have a second album of co-writes, part of the TIME OUT series, (already available on their Patreon FAM club page) releasing in the Spring of 2025 and they just finished recording a 2025 Christmas winter album w/ Kaboom Collective Studio Orchestra.
The Accidentals are “musicians” musicians, not only do they write, arrange and record their own music but they are session players in the Nashville recording scene. Sav and Katie have recorded strings and vocals on 30+ other artists albums this year.
“Supporting other artists in the studio and one the road was always one of our goals.” Says Katie Larson “In this business the more revenue streams the better and we’re excited to continue to grow and be challenged”. Sav is on tour this year with Country artist, Lainey Wilson and Katie is out with Country crooner, Bred Young.
The band says, “our goal is to create a safe listening space for everyone and shared experiences. Music helps people process things that are hard to process. Hopefully, people can relate to something we’re creating in a way that feels like understanding. Maybe, it offers a different perspective, and that leads to less loneliness and more community.”
NPR calls them some of the most compelling writers of our time…Pop Matters says, they’re a power trio whose music is a blend of Neko Case lyrics, Jack White rock, and Queen dynamic. It's edgy, indie folk-influenced, pop rock. Their FAM club said it best when they described them as Americana lyrics, pop melodies, and punk energy.
Local Ground presents: Ryan Cassidy
Ryan Cassidy’s show will take you on a musical journey. Prepare to hear songs you know and love, featuring the rock ‘n’ roll roots of the 1950’s, the British pop of the 60’s, the classic rock of the 70’s, the new wave of the 80’s, and the alternative of the 90’s.
Ryan’s original music is often described as a blend of these genres and then some. Ryan is often joined live by his father, Mike Cassidy, providing backing vocals and percussion to the mix. In 2020, Ryan was joined on a duet by Cherie Currie, frontwoman of the iconic 70’s rock band, The Runaways, alongside Joan Jett and Lita Ford. The song, Small Price, was written by Cassidy and also features Sav Buist and Katie Larson of Michigan’s own The Accidentals on strings.
Northern Express states that the song is “one of the loveliest music moments you’re likely to hear this year,” as well as placing Ryan’s debut album, Between Two Normals, in their list of Top 5 Albums Created by a Michigan Artist that year, with the likes of Billy Strings, The Accidentals, and Greta Van Fleet.
