Itinerary
Visit a Bustling Local Market:
For over 30 years, this vibrant market has been a hub for the local community offering fresh produce, mouth-watering snacks, and handmade crafts. Follow your local guide as we engage with the friendly vendors, famous for their warm smiles and great deals, and try our favorite traditional Cambodian snack made with rice flour, minced pork, and a variety of herbs & spices.
Explore an Ancient Monastery & Pagoda:
As one of Siem Reap’s hidden gems, this active monastery has a rich history dating back to the 10th century. Home to Buddhist monks and a center for community gatherings, enjoy the serene environment, admire traditional Khmer architecture, and gain insights into Cambodian Buddhist practices and cultural heritage.
Air Conditioned Refreshments:
Grab a cold drink and some swag before departing for your next destination. The tour will finish approx. 15 minutes walk from the meeting location.
Highlights
How this free tour works:
This is our way of giving back to the community. We use a portion of the proceeds we receive from our other Cambodia tours to pay your guide and the vendors that we visit during the tour. We do this because we want to continue putting money back into the hands of the locals that make our experiences so special. It allows us to share the positive impact tourism can have on these lesser visited local communities.
If you enjoy your tour, there are some (free) things you can do to help share your experience so we can do the same with other guests. These include leaving a public review and posting about your experience on social media.
FAQs
Is this tour really free?
Yes! We run this tour a few days each week for anyone that would like to join. You won’t be asked to pay for anything during the tour, and we even provide a light snack and a bottle of water. At the end of the tour, you are welcome to give your guide an optional gratuity to show your appreciation.
How do we do it? We provide Cambodia’s top-rated food tours in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh every evening, and we use a portion of those proceeds to give back to the community. Those proceeds pay for this free tour’s guide and vendor visits.
To show our appreciate for joining this free tour, we’ll also extend a discount for you to join our evening food tours throughout Cambodia. A promo code will be provided in your email.
How much food/drinks will I get?
You should enjoy your hotel breakfast before joining this walking tour. We will provide one small snack along the way, but this is not a full breakfast. You should also bring your own water to ensure you have plenty to drink throughout the tour.
What should I wear, and is there a dress code for the temples?
In general, we recommend wearing comfortable, close-toed footwear and clothing that is light and breathable. Knees and shoulders must be covered when visiting the temple. Shorts and dresses that cover the knees are acceptable, as are scarves that cover the shoulders.
Where does the tour start and end?
This tour starts at a non-touristy local market along the Siem Reap River and ends 15 minutes walk away from the start location. An email will be sent with meeting location details immediately after booking.
