About

The All Female 5 Day Sail and Kayak Journey is a life-changing opportunity for young women to explore the world around them and discover their true potential. By providing a supportive and empowering environment, it encourages them to build confidence, communication skills, and lasting friendships.
The program promotes self-respect and respect for Kaitiakitanga, instilling a sense of responsibility towards the environment and the world around us.
Through this adventure, participants will embark on a journey of discovery, unlocking their inner adventurer and taking their first steps towards a brighter future.
Providers are NZ Sailing Trust and Auckland Sea Kayaks.

5 day Sailing and Kayaking Programme

The first two nights will be spent sailing on either Lion New Zealand, or Steinlager 2. These boats are significant to New Zealand sailing history and were sailed around the world by Sir Peter Blake in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race. Everybody on board will have the opportunity to learn to sail the boats, help with the preparation of meals and sleep aboard. They will be put into a watch rotation system to learn about different aspects of sailing, put into practice reading the weather, plan our destination and to work together to sail the boat to that destination. We engage everyone in beach clean ups, raft building, problem solving or communication activities to further develop skills and enhance personal growth.

The following two nights will be spent on the water with Auckland Sea Kayaks, where students will learn how to kayak and camp in a safe, fun and supportive environment. They will get the opportunity to lead and be led by their fellow peers under the guidance of an experienced and qualified instructor. They will also put to use their map reading and navigational skills, follow Leave No Trace and gain understanding for how each of the 7 principles applies to the present environment and their day to day lives.
