Highlights
Captain Jim Andrews recently purchased the Oxford Bellevue Ferry from longtime owners, Captains Judy and Tom Bixler. Captain Andrews brings a lifetime of maritime experience to his new role as owner of the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry. With an established career that includes two decades of service in the U.S. Coast Guard, he has developed a deep appreciation for maritime heritage and waterway transportation. His acquisition of the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry represents the culmination of his passion for historic watercraft and commitment to maintaining vital connections between the historic communities of Oxford and Bellevue. Captains Andrews plans to honor the ferry's storied traditions while introducing subtle modernizations to enhance passenger experience and ensure the ferry's sustainability for future generations.
Additional information
Check-in details
The Oxford Bellevue Ferry, established in 1683, holds the distinction of being America's oldest privately owned ferry operation in continuous service. For nearly three and a half centuries, this crucial nautical link has connected the towns of Oxford and Bellevue across the Tred Avon River, shortening what would otherwise be a 14-mile journey to less than a quarter mile. The ferry has weathered hurricanes, economic depressions, and countless technological revolutions while maintaining its essential character. Today, it serves not only as a practical transportation option for locals but also as a beloved tourist attraction that offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the Chesapeake Bay's living maritime history.

Health & Safety
This event occurs on a floating vessel. Appropriate clothing and footwear is recommended. Loose or blousy clothing may get ensnared in machinery. Pants rather than skirts for ladies are also recommended. Close-toed flat shoes rather than high heels also recommended for safety. Always be aware of your surroundings and keep one hand on the ship's fixed structure to guard against loss of balance should the vessel move unexpectedly.
Cancellations
We strongly suggest opting into cancellation protection: Those who do can cancel for any reason up to 5pm the day before their departure. Those chose not to take cancellation protection fares are all sales final.
