About

Explore the world of the Baroque art movement that has given Rome the beautiful aesthetic we are all so familiar with today.

On this walking tour, your friendly expert guide will take you on a magical stroll through the center of Rome and tell you the stories of two of Rome’s most famous Baroque Masters, Carravaggio and Bernini. Discover the art that was created in this era of decorative architecture and innovative painting styles by two of the best artists of the time.

This tour begins in Piazza del Popolo where you can learn about some of Bernini’s lesser known work as well as see two of Carravaggio’s most beautiful paintings from the lives of Saints Peter and Paul. From here your guide will lead you to Piazza Spagna to see one of Bernini’s lesser known works, the fountain at the base of the steps, in which he assisted his sculptor father Pietro Bernini. Once you’ve taken in the beauty of the steps and refreshed your water bottles from the fountain, you will go straight to the church of Sant’ Andrea delle Fratte.

This church houses two of the most beautiful Bernini sculptures of angels, and just across the street your guide will help you catch a glimpse at the home in which Bernini resided. Next is a lovely walk past the Parliament building, also the piazza where Caravaggio was in his most famous bar fight, and then on to see more Caravaggio paintings, including the series of the life and martyrdom of Saint Matthew in the church of San Luigi dei Francese.

Your tour ends just a couple of blocks away in Piazza Navona where you will surrounded by Bernini sculpture and his most famous Fountain of the Four Rivers. You will even hear about his rivalry with one of his former students Borromini, who designed the church next to the fountain.

As your tour draws to a close, we encourage you to ask your friendly guide any questions you may have about the tour itself, or even where to go for aperitivo. Your guide will be happy to help you with any tips and suggestions to make your stay in Rome the trip of a lifetime.
