Safety Policies and Procedures:
Following CDC Guidelines, all vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals are required to wear a mask inside all public buildings. You will not be permitted inside the Gift Shop or on a Guided Tour without a mask. Please ask the Gift Shop Attendant for a mask if needed.
Shirley Plantation Foundation will continue to follow all CDC Guidelines and Recommendations.

About
All group programs are customized based on the age and number of students/adults participating as well as the length of time scheduled
for visiting. Activities listed below may be adapted for all ages with some programs best suited to certain student grade levels. Advanced
reservations are required for group discounts and programs.
What's Included
Each group package includes a guided tour of the Manor House, a self-guided tour of the grounds, outbuildings, and gardens, and the option to play Mission:Shirley or take the Nature Walk as time allows.
A minimum of twenty (20) students or adults is required to reserve an educational program, and are available for $2.50 per student/adult per program with prior reservation. Our staff will gladly assist you in planning your visit and coordinating your schedule of activities.
The student-friendly Gift Shop carries an assortment of souvenirs and gift items, as well as books and toys that bolster the learning experience.
Add-On Educational Programs
GUIDED GROUNDS TOUR (Adults, Students) Enjoy a guided tour of Shirley’s many original and authentic Colonial outbuildings and the grounds surrounding the Manor House. Tour can be customized to focus on building usage, historic preservation, trees, plants, and wildlife.
SLAVE LIFE AT SHIRLEY (Adults, Students) Explore the stories of the enslaved individuals at Shirley Plantation by reviewing copies of family documents and discover the role of archaeology in interpreting the life of the enslaved at Shirley.
COLONIAL SCHOOLROOM (Students) Participate in a recreated classroom with lessons similar to those learned by young children which include
writing on a slate and penning with a quill.
GAMES AND AMUSEMENTS (Students) Try a variety of 18th-century and 19th-century games including jacks, marbles, jackstraws, “Close-the-box”, nine pins, and lawn bowling.
THE MIGHTY JAMES (RIVER) (Adult, Students) Learn how the James River changed history beginning in 1607 and continues to be one of the most influential rivers in America today. Hands-on activities include a "colonial shopping trip" and walking the banks of the river.
COURTESIES (Students) Learn the 17th and 18th-century social graces young children were taught in Virginia. Compare and practice with the
social behaviors of today.
