Itinerary
A half-day session is 3 hours, in which campers are split into two groups: ocean skills (on-land endurance games and ocean enrichment) and surf skills (surfing only). Campers spend about an hour and a half in each of these areas.
The camp definitely progresses throughout the week. I would consider Monday being the most "explanatory day"; going over water safety, parts of the board, surf report, and assessing campers surfing abilities. As the week goes on, we try to maximize our surfing time and set/reach personal goals. By Friday, campers should have the endurance, excitement, perseverance, and smarts to surf safely and respectfully.

Special requirements
Surf Camp is designed for and attended overwhelmingly by kids who want to be in the ocean. However, after years of running surf camp, it is prudent to address that surf camp is not an appropriate program to help kids get over their fear of the ocean or the water. All campers are expected to participate in the ocean.
If your child is fearful of water activities, we recommend private lessons to help them overcome this fear. This should not be your childโs first time in the ocean!
Summertime Surf will not refund or apply surf camp credit for campers who are unwilling to participate in ocean activities.
All Campers Must:
- Be able to follow directions
- Not have a strong fear of water or the ocean
- Have experience with swim lessons in a pool environment

Safety Values & Practices
"โ๏ธ a healthy surfer is a happy surfer! ๐"
- All aspects of our program have been designed with safety as the top priority.
- All Summertime Instructors are certified lifesavers trained in CPR and First Aid.
- Staff works with the local lifeguards and first aid squads to further ensure the safety of our students and staff.
- We plan and prepare all staffing needs to maintain student to instructor ratios based on years of program development. Please note that ratios guides are shared NOT as a guarantee, but rather to help understand how we plan for a standard day of programming. In some instances, ratios may vary.
Program Ratio Guide
5:1 student to instructor ratio for intermediate/advanced programs
4:1 ratio for beginner programs
3:1 ratio for programs for students 6 yrs and under
2:1 or 1:1 ratio for private lessons
Most common surfing conditions allow for students to spend the majority of their program time in the water, but during less favorable conditions, group programming may need to take turns in and out of the ocean in the best interest of safety.
We are prepared for emergencies and have dealt with injuries, both serious and minor, effectively in the past. A tent/canopy acts as our home base, where students can enjoy shelter from the sun. All of our equipment is inspected daily for potential hazards and we provide only beginner-friendly surfboards.
A waiver must be signed prior to the start of any program due to the inherent risks of surfing and other activities that our programs provide. That being said, we would like to assure you that we have carefully chosen a team of responsible adults and young adults to provide the best experience possible for you or your child. We realize that there will be bumps, breaks, bruises, cuts, scrapes, and possibly a few tears shed, but we will work with you and your loved ones to make sure that their experience is one that they walk away from smiling. ๐ โ๏ธ ๐
Cancellations
CANCELLATION AND RESCHEDULING POLICIES
๐ At Summertime Surf, we are understanding of lifeโs uncertainties and are stoked to extend a friendly cancellation and rescheduling policy to our students.
๐ค๏ธPlease understand that credit paid towards programs are not interchangeable, i.e. camp credits cannot be used for a private lesson.
Kids Camp Cancellations & Rescheduling:
- Notify Summertime Surf at least two weeks ahead of time to reschedule with no administrative fee or to obtain a full refund
All rescheduling is pending availability
- There is no rescheduling or cancellations within two weeks before your scheduled week.
- There are no refunds or makeups for personal missed camp days. Please contact our office as soon as possible regarding emergency situations.
In the event Summertime cancels for any reason less than halfway through a session (e.g. unsafe weather), participants are eligible for a makeup session at a later date at no charge, pending availability.
- Each student is permitted to participate in three weeks of surf camp with Summertime Surf. If STS notices a child is enrolled for MORE THAN three weeks of camp, we reserve the right to cancel every week after the first two weeks in which you are enrolled in.
Next-step programming is NOW available: STS is happy to offer a Surf Clubs for those students who are ready to commit to advancing their skills with like-minded people. If your child has participated in multiple weeks of camp with STS, they may be ready for this next-step program!
Please Note:
๐ค๏ธ WEATHER AND OCEAN CONSIDERATIONS:
All programs operate rain or shine; some of the best surf conditions are during rain showers.
๐ Summertime Surf has a wealth of experience operating in the ever-changing beach and ocean environments, and reserves the right to make the call on what we deem acceptable conditions for surfing. Your program manager will work with you to make sure that you are getting value in the time spent together.
โ๏ธ Thunderstorms are the most common reason for program cancellation (about 3 days per season). On days that have a thunderstorm threat, please check the website for weather updates at 7:30AM for all morning programming, and 11:30AM for all afternoon programming.
๐ธ For kids camps, at the first reports of lightning campers are evacuated from the beach and parents are contacted to pick campers up.
โ Camp days canceled due to unsafe conditions may be made up during a weekend session (pending availability). If a camper cannot make it to a weekend session, they are eligible instead for a prorated additional week at camp for the current season.
Miscellaneous Considerations:
At Summertime Surf, we try to provide the best possible experience for each individual student and participant. Safety is our number one priority, and our instructors have been trained to be patient and encouraging with students of all skill levels. With over fifteen years of experience, we have been able to transform many apprehensive students into watermen and women. That being said, in the extreme circumstance that a student is completely uncooperative, disruptive to other studentโs experience, or unwilling to listen to instructors directions, and as a result of such, poses a possible safety issue for themselves or the other campers, we reserve the right to refuse their entry to camp for the remainder of the session, week, and/or future bookings, with no refund available. It takes a group effort to make camp as memorable as it can be, so we look forward to you and your camperโs positive energy.
