2025 Summer Kid's Fish Camp - July 5 & 6
Sawmill Lake, Northstar Resort
$425 per camper *ages 7 - 14
Our 2025 Summer Fish Camp is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to fly fish in a fun and educational setting at our private Sawmill Lake located on the Northstar Resort. Our fishing instructors are all guide certified, carry CPR/AED Certification, and most importantly love fishing with kids! We’ll take lots of pictures and provide photos and video of camp activities.
Campers are welcome to bring their own gear, but it is not required. We’ll have rods, equipment and flies for all students.
Campers will receive a confirmation package with maps and locations of the camp located on the Northstar Resort off of Highlands View Road.
Drop-off will be at 9 AM with courses beginning at 9:30 AM. Pick-up will be daily 4 PM.
All fly rods and equipment will be provided for the class but students are encouraged to bring their own gear.
Course Itinerary
July 5th:
9 AM: Drop-off/Check-in
9:30 AM:
Meet the Guides & Student Introductions (15 Minutes)
Gear Overview: Anglers will learn the basics gear including clothing, rods, reels, and fishing accessories. (30 Minutes)
Knot Tying: Focusing on 3 basic knots: Clinch Knot, Double Surgeon’s Knot, and the Loop Knot (30 Minutes)
Lunch Break: Sub Sandwiches from Yellow-Sub Sandwiches in South Lake Tahoe. Menu provided - please disclose food allergies. (45 Minutes)
Where Do Fish Live? A walk along the Upper Truckee River to learn fish habitat, fish food (bugs), wildlife, and river safety. (45 Minutes)
Casting: Anglers will learn how to cast a fly rod including the roll cast, overhead cast, false casting, presentation, line management, and more. (45 Minutes)
Guided Fly Fishing: Anglers will spend the rest of the afternoon being guided around Lake Baron, practicing their knowledge learned throughout the day. (1.5 - 2 Hours)
4 PM: Pick up
July 6th:
9 AM: Drop-off/Check-in
9:30 AM:
Casting: Anglers will have a brief review on casting to get ready for the day. (30 Minutes)
Guided Fly Fishing: Anglers will spread out with guides around the lake. Groups will take turns in the drift boat with a guides to try different techniques. (2 Hours)
Lunch Break: Pizza from Bob Dog Pizza in Meyers, CA. Pepperoni, Vegetarian, Cheese Pizza! - please disclose food allergies (45 Minutes)
Guided Fly Fishing: Anglers resume fishing. Groups will take turns in the drift boat with a guides to try different techniques. (2 Hours)
Swag Bag and Awards Presentation: Campers will go home with a few goodies from the shop. (30 Minutes)
4 PM: Pick-up
What to Bring:
- Casual loose sun protective clothing
- Appropriate footwear for hiking and trail walking
- Sunglasses or other eye protection is required for safety
- Sunscreen
- Re-usable water bottle. Water will be provided, but this is always important in the outdoors
Parents are welcome to stay and view the courses and events, take pictures, etc.
