The Honey Locust & Grounds at the Historic Property
Celebrating Arbor and Earth Day • All ages • Sun, Apr 27
Overview
Activity details
Join Cole Fellow Elizabeth to learn more about the only living item in our collection, in honor of Arbor Day and Earth Day. Before Cedar Grove was Thomas Cole's home, it was a bustling 100-square-acre farm, complete with animals, pastures, and orchards. Join this nature walk around the grounds and gardens to learn more about what grew here and the people who stewarded this place.
About Elizabeth: Elizabeth's research as a Cole Fellow focuses on the history of the land and the people who steward it. In learning more about this history, she has had the amazing opportunity to connect with the ecology of the Hudson Valley, including right here at Cedar Grove.

About GCSWCD: The Greene County Soil & Water Conservation District (GCSWCD) is a county-level, political subdivision of New York State dedicated to the best management of natural resources. The District has been in existence since 1961. Since its inception, the GCSWCD has developed a diverse conservation program to address local needs, and assist landowners, local municipalities as well as state and federal agencies in their conservation efforts.
About The Forest Exchange: The Forest Exchange is a Delaware County nursery specializing in trees and shrubs for agroforestry that have exceptional traits for food production, climate resilience, habitat creation, and genetic diversity. We grow naturally in living soil, using only organic management practices. These plants help us to imagine abundant futures where food literally falls from the sky.
The Catskill Tree Council is an all-volunteer group of local community members dedicated to the presence of trees in Catskill. The CTC has planted over 70 trees along Main St., and oversees the maintenance of all public trees in the village. The National Arbor Day Foundation has honored their work by awarding Catskill the title of Tree City, USA.
