Poetry & the Natural World
5/10/2025 • 4 Hours
Overview
Activity details
Why--and to what varied ends-- are poets drawn to nature? Join geologist and Monterey Audubon Society board member, Fred Hochstaedter, and poet Laura Schulkind, as they explore this question. The day begins with a nature walk, led by Fred, along the vibrant coast that inspired much of Robinson Jeffers poetry--in particular its rich bird life and fascinating rock formations. Then, with that inspiration fresh in mind, we return to Tor House where Laura will share how a range of poets have been inspired by, and use, nature in their work. Further discussion will then continue over lunch. An optional informal tour of Tor House follows.
