San Jose to Espada - 3 Mission Experience
Ready for a journey through time? Join T's Tours for a 13-mile guided experience from Mission San Jose to Mission Espadda and back, with stops at the Espada Dam, Whispers Art Installation, the Espada Aquaduct, Arbol de Vida Art Installation and the San Juan Acequia.
Your professional tour guide will guide you along the scenic Mission Reach Trail as it winds along the San Antonio River. She will tell you stories of the river, the people who made its banks their home, the missions, and the unique culture that was forged over the generations…a culture still thriving today. At each mission, your tour guide will walk the grounds with you, pointing out interesting features but also allow you time to explore on your own.
What makes this tour different from our other bicycle tours?
For starters, this tour includes visits to three missions. The two southern most missions, surrounded by farm fields, provide participants with a good feel for how these mission once looked.
The Espada Acequia (irrigation) system still functions as it was originally built. The Espada Dam and the Aquaduct are part of the Espada irrigation system. The San Juan system still functions although the original dam no longer exists. These acequia systems were vital to the mission communities.
At Mission San Juan, we will visit the original labores (farm fields), still being used to grow crops.
