Join our local mushing guides on the Tanana river for a thrilling sled ride pulled by a team of energetic Alaskan Huskies. Get to know the sled dogs while you experience the splendors of Alaska’s wilderness. During this 1-hour tour you will get the opportunity to pet and harness the huskies, learn about the history of dog mushing and get an inside look at sled dog training in Alaska today!
Our 4-mile tour trail winds through the wooded Fairbanks lowlands and spills out onto the confluence of the Chena and Tanana Rivers. Looping around the sprawling snow covered sandbars on the frozen river there will be multiple photo opportunities in the beautiful pastel light of Fairbanks winter. Back up the Chena river toward Trail Breaker Kennel you will get a look at the local architecture and a feel for the power and purpose of Alaskan Huskies at work.
Founded by Susan Butcher (4-time Iditarod champion), Trail Breaker Kennel is an iconic piece of Alaskan culture. The kennel is conveniently located a mile from the Fairbanks International Airport and 15 minutes from downtown Fairbanks.
Transportation: Trail Breaker Kennel does not provide transportation. Please plan your ride to and from your tour. Please arrive 5 minutes before your tour start time.
Notes: Please dress warmly for your tour. Prepare to be outside in unpredictable weather for your dog sled ride. Required gear: warm jacket, hat, scarf, mittens, snow pants (Recommended) and warm footwear. Tours will be canceled if the temperature is -25 degrees F or colder. Tours will be canceled for children 10 years and younger at -10. For the safety of our dogs and the comfort of our guests, we ask that guests over 250lbs book two seats.
