About
This class teaches fundamental paddling skills including launching, strokes, maneuvering, and how to stay safe on the water. With this class, you will be prepared for enjoying flat water environments, such as lakes and very protected ocean sites. You can use your own kayak or rent one of ours.

- Basic outfitting & gear
- Safe ways to enter and exit a kayak
- Balancing
- Initial maneuvering strokes
- Assessing weather and tides
- Suggested launch sites on Whidbey
What to bring:
- Always dress for possible immersion. No cotton!
Use multiple layers of synthetic, quick-dry clothing - Wetsuit rental available
- Towel
- A change of dry clothes
- Water
- Thermos with a hot drink
- If you wear glasses, have some way to secure them to your face
Kayak Rental Includes: a kayak, paddle, life jacket and safety gear (paddle float and bilge pump)
For those using their own kayak and gear, be sure to also bring a life jacket, paddle and any other safety gear you may have.
What to know:
- No previous experience is needed
- Although this class is an excellent intro to kayaking, it does not imply any certification or infers any skill qualification
- Although we do not cover capsize recovery skills in this class, it is always possible that someone winds up in the water, so please take our clothing suggestions seriously.
Group Policy:
We need a minimum of 3 students to run a class and is subject to canceling, rescheduling, or upgrading to a private.
